Six Word Food Memoir

My weekends while growing up were filled with sauce. My mother spent much of her Saturday making meatballs and Sunday they stewed all day in her homemade sauce. No self-respecting Italian would ever eat jarred sauce, and I never did until I was an adult and went to friends' apartments for what they considered an Italian dinner. I used to make my own sauce, but rarely because I never had weekends I could devote to such a time-consuming activity. Then I found Victoria--made in Brooklyn, this marinara rivals any I've had made at home. I use it now all the time in many different recipes. I bet even my grandmother would like it.

The Food Still Life

We studied the still life genre and created our own images with a food focus.

The Food Poem

Chef Henry visited our class and made us some creamy cauliflower potato soup. We experienced sensory imagery during this event with blindfolds on so that we could heighten our non-visual senses. I had so much fun writing in this way, and I thoroughly enjoyed the soup!

My Food Memoir

I loved writing my food memoir and reading those written by professional authors as well as my classmates. I decided to write about quenelle because I ate this during a very formative trip to France that changed my life--even though I didn't realize it at the time.
