What Inspires Me

Teaching and Learning

As a passionate educator, I spend much of my time reading, thinking and writing about best practices for teaching and learning. I am a believer in Project Based Learning (PBL) and I design curriculum that is experiential and constructivist. I believe learning is most effective when students work to solve problems, think critically, express themselves, create, and communicate effectively.

This description of PBL by Edutopia illustrates what the method is and what successful PBL looks like and achieves.

John Dewey's
Experience and Education continues to support my beliefs about schools and my approach to designing curriculum.

My dear friend, mentor, and former principal, Nancy Mohr, continues to guide my thinking about educational leadership and progressive education. She was a model of what it means to be a brilliant, caring educator who lived her values and cared deeply about children.
