School Culture and Community Building

Below are some traditions I established at Jericho High School in order to increase school spirit, foster a sense of community, and strengthen a positive, inclusive school culture.

College Day
My Video Yearbook club began celebrating college commitment day by setting up a green screen outside the student cafeteria and recording seniors introducing themselves and stating what college they plan to attend.

Alumni Day
Each year I invite my most recent graduates to talk to my current students about college work and college life and how they can prepare for it. I also invite alumni from my journalism program to talk to my current reporters about their experiences in college, internships, and the world of work.

Lip Dubs
Nothing unifies a school more or fosters school spirit better than a whole school lip dub video. (See link to previous year on the YouTube page.)

Satire Videos
March at Jericho High School is satire month. My seniors produce comedic videos that satirize the human folly around us. The videos are curated by my JerEcho reporters and published on April 1st in the JerUh-Oh.  Click on the logo to the right for some laughs.

Photo Booths
Photo booths are a special way to foster school spirit, and when the photos are posted online, students can remember special school days and access the images for their own use.
