My Personal Essay

Encyclopedia of My Life

Reflection
During the first quarter of our course, I learned so much about writing, myself, and the importance of voice. After reading Janet Burroway's chapter on voice in writing, I now understand how my diction and syntax make my writing sound like me. I have expanded my vocabulary this quarter with the help of visualthesuarus.com and worked on revising my essays to give them a tone and style that are unique to me.
I've made sure to add both expressive and reflective writing to my compositions--telling the reader the whole story and my feelings about it while also including the impact of life events on my development as a person. You can see how this is so in my personal essay, and how one simple experience from second grade shaped my career and life choices.
I enjoyed creating my Bio Poem and encyclopedia. It was fun to explore my artistic side using words and images. I loved using Canva and will continue to use this application in my school and personal lives.
I gained so much from quarter one and feel like my writing improved a great deal. I look forward to quarter two when we will explore food and write about it.
